Clan Crest Badge
Our crest badge is made up from the Clan Chief's Arms (with permission) being a Scottish Hunting greyhound gorged with a golden crown. This signifies the ancient role of supplying game for the Kings table. It is surrounded by a belt and buckle showing allegiance to the bearer of the Crest. The Latin writing Cursum Perficio is the Clan motto and means
"I will complete the course".
Clan Plant Badge
Our Plant badge is Ameria Maritima. The Sea Pink, to give it it's common name, thrives on the wild rocky shoreline and would be worn on a hat or lapel as a means of identity.
Hunterston Tartan
Traditionally there were three different tartans which could all be called Hunter tartan. It depended where you lived and who you were descended from. In 1981 the Clan Chief decided enough was enough and set to designing a new Hunter tartan that was both modern and would represent the whole Clan.
In 1983 we first saw the appearance of the "Hunter of Hunterston sett". The official tartan for the Hunter clan.
The background of this page shows the threads, the Clan holds the International Patent.
The red and green are the hunting colours, the blue represents the sea and the gold (yellow) the Royal connection.
The Hunterston Brooch
Two other items that have brought fame and visitors to Hunterston are the Brooch and the Royal charter from 1374. More about them on this page.

Although you cannot see the castle very well from the road this map allows you to explore the general area.
Because we are a relatively small clan it is not practical to have staff in attendance daily for visitors.
